Hyderabad Farewell Series : 2- Radisson Hitec City - A disaster in the making.

I have been eyeing this hotel for a long time, it becoming Radisson gave me the necessary zeal to pay it a visit this afternoon.

Since the time i had decided to relocate to Pune, i been trying to strike out list of places that i haven't eaten at so far. Today was a day when i chose Cascade at the Radisson - Hitec city as a destination for my farewell dinner with office colleagues, what a bad one it was.

Cascade is located on the second floor of the property. While the lobby is pretty inviting, it only dispels all the doubts about the food being as inviting as the lobby. As you enter Cascade, you are greeted by a Buddha Statue, but my experience was all but Zen.

Cascade is an elongated coffee shop at the Radisson with the food spread located at the far end of the restaurant.

For a restaurant whose entry is one extreme end, the food spread is not symmetrically placed. As soon as you approach the food spread you are greeted by the dessert counter on the left with the main course on the right.

As you go further ahead, you have the salad bar and the chat counter. I would have liked to see the chat/salad counter, followed by the main course and then the dessert and the live counters where else applicable.

I looks like some one just did patch work with the food spread and was not properly arranged or atleast it should be given a little more thought on how to spread out the food evenly and course wise.

Having ignored this we sat ourselves down close to the salad bar.

For the non veg salad, we had a cold chicken salad, grilled fish salad, sausage with spinach . This is when i started getting jolts of lightning hitting me at all directions.

The fish was stale. It was reused and very blindly at that. The chicken was hard and sausage was almost beginning to wring itself. None of the salads were any good, partly because they weren't fresh - something that is supposed to be symbolic of a salad - freshness.

THe Chat counter provided with some retribution with some good papdi chat.

Having tried to find my way around the course, i ended up with the chicken and a fish in hoisin sauce starter.

Just 2 starters in veg and 2 in non veg - i wasnt sure if this was a joke or Rahul gandhi is a bigger joke. Never the less even those were disappointing.

I then tried the other dishes - roast potato in thyme, poached fish, dal makhni and the mutton biryani.

The Dal makhani was a absolute non entity. The moment i tasted it, i was left searching for flavour. You would expect most restaurants to get the dal makhani right, but this was the end of the meal for me. I was left high and dry in front of a dish i so dearly like and i absolutely hate it when it isnt got right.

Out of all the despair, the mutton biryani revived my spirits a little. It was well made biryani at that. Evenly spiced and mutton properly cooked - falling off the bone. Having told myself to omit making mockery of the food by serving it on the plate and leaving it, i decided to head to the dessert counter.

For desserts we had a rather long list of it but clumsily arranged. From what i can remember we had a decadent kiwi cheese cake, mango parfait, brownie, ice creams, angoori gulab jamun, kala jamun, an assortment of something

What i did not understand was the setup of the desserts. They were placed on steps extending away from the counter making it difficult to reach the top without soiling your clothes.  Also the desert spatulas were posing problem to properly lift the cut piece from the plate.

The assortment or whatever it was called - was just a bland coloured soufflé kind of a dish which acted as a place filler. It had a chocolate coloured and a biscuit coloured - soufflé like thing on the plate with no apparent taste to it.

The kiwi soufflé/cheese cake , the strawberry tart and the ice cream were the only saving grace. While the kiwi soufflé/cheese cake wasn't extraordinary, it was the best of the worst.

The strawberry tart was well made. So were the jamuns.

The ice creams were run of the mill and nothing to expect.

The orange jelly was all but natural. There was no essence of jelly in it.

There was not 1 thing that was special about it being Radisson. I hear a lot of good about the oriental blossom but looking at cascade, ide rather reserve my visit to it..

Buffet is priced at 800++ and although the restaurant declined to accept payment, i did not want a bad lunch for free, i would rather have a good one for free...

Use discretion while going here in a large groups esp when you have food lovers amongst you...

PS: the FnB manager Mr Perumal was made aware of the complaints and he has assured me that corrective action will be taken.
